Apple IMac
I wish I would have switched way before now. This is so superior to every PC I've had in the last 5 years and I've had 5 new PC's. It's outstanding looks is only outdone by it's outstanding performance. After this experience with the new IMac I will never buy another PC.. ever!
This is what personal computers should be like
If you are looking for a hassle free answer to Windows crashes, slowdowns, error messages and excessive complexity, the iMac is it. From the moment you take the iMac out of it's box you are in a different (and better) world. Sit the thing on your desk, together with the wireless mouse and keyboard, plug the singe power cord into a socket and press the power button. It took about 5 minutes to respond to a few prompts, setup a user account and connect to my home WiFi network. From that point on my wife and I have enjoyed a whole new computing experience where things just work, and continue to work. The built in apps such as iPhoto and iMovie have proved to be quite adequate for our needs and a pleasure to use and the addition of Apples iWork has provide us with a set of MS Office compatible applications that while not exactly feature are more than adequate for our needs. The one thing I would highly recommend that any new iMac user gets is a good user guide. We chose the "Missing Manuals OS X Snow Leopard" and have found it to be an extremely well written and comprehensive guide to the OS X operating system.
Excellent Out Of The Box
I've been a Mac user since 1995. I can sing the praises of both the operating system and the hardware quality of Apple products in general. However, this unit was bought for my 86 year old mother for E-mail and photography. The Mac OSX is easily usable by computer neophytes. It's simple to set up and use. She doesn't have to worry about viruses or Windows complexity. And yet the computer can do anything Windows does and more. It can even run Windows if you want to travel into the past.
First and Probably Last Apple
The glossy black screen is not functional for everyday use. Imagine placing a mirror over your screen and trying to view the content--what a headache. Windows can only be resized by grabbing a tiny corner on the lower right, ridiculous, and woe to you if a window comes up where that little right corner is off the screen. Can you imagine demanding business users letting Microsoft get away with such (un)functionality? Maybe there was a time when Apple's technology was superior to Microsoft's for certain tasks, but anymore I think it is just a bunch of hype for which the purchaser pays a steep premium.
iMac
We recently added this iMac to our network. I'm not sure what else I can say about what is probably the best personal computer line on the market today. Why anyone would buy a PC product is beyond me. If you want a computer & operating system that simply works like it should, buy an iMac. I was a PC guy from the 80's when the IBM PC first came out. I went through DOS, and all the Windows releases up to XP Pro, when I made the switch. I can honestly say that I believe the iMac's out perform the PC's and more importantly the operating system works without all the hang ups and conflicts I became used to running Windows on a PC. I still run XP Pro, only in a virtual mode on a separate monitor hooked up to my iMac. Windows never ran as good as it does on the iMac. Yes they are more expensive but I feel they are well worth it.
